Sun., Sept. 28, Day 27 – Lincoln City, OR to Eureka, CA

We’ve had too many one night stands so decided to cancel our motel in Bandon, OR and drive 7 hrs down to Eureka and the spend the following two days in Mendicino, a town of which we have fond memories from years ago.
It’s a long drive, with more beautiful seascapes along the southern coast or Oregon. We skipped some of the redwood sites north of Eureka, but figured we would make up our redwood quota the following day. We lunched at The Station Restaurant in Bandon, where it seemed that the whole town was dining. We decided to go back to ordinary road food. Lois had cornbeaf hash and I have a hamburger. Necessary switch from our seafood diet.
The Best Western in Eureka was the largest and nicest regular motel in which we have stayed on this trip,
Eureka is an attractive old logging town, dating back to the early 19th century. It’s very well restored. Reminiscent of Lodo in Denver. Many attractive looking boutiques, other stores, restaurants. We dined at the Cafe Waterfront, a former bar and brothel. Lois had a fried oyster sandwich and I ate a snapper sandwhich.
