Sept. 9, Day 8 – Waterton Lakes to Lake Louise

We already showed the 6″ of snow that greeted us this morning. But we forgot to mention that Wateron Lakes is just over the border into Canada. We had to detour to the East and go up through Calgary to avoid the potentially ice on the back roads we had intended to take. Calgary had taken a major hit with the storms. Broken tree branches, downed electric wires, closed airport, etc. We took a wrong road and finally arrived in Banff after a long drive. Banff is a large ski resort, bigger than Breck and the old town of Vail. Numerous restaurants, stores, condos. Attractive Main Street. Had yummy apple and pecan pies at a little coffee shop. Peter found a handsome new ski jacket at 75% off as it was last year’s model.

We then went on the short drive up to the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, to be described in the next blog.

In photo #2 check out the name of the little restaurant to the left of McDonalds.
